What it usually turns out to be
The scanner wording on a 2011 328xi was "steering angle only relative, center position unknown, learned quadrant active, turn onto end position". On E90Post the first reply was that the sensor normally resets after turning all the way left and right once or twice and that if it does not, the sensor might be bad; the second was that it probably needs calibrating, which a scan tool or an alignment shop can do.
The owner turned lock to lock and reported it worked, with the steering wobble above 65 mph gone. AutoExplain reads 6EC4 as a steering angle sensor adjustment fault that feeds the DSC.
The steering wheel carries the driver airbag. This page is not a reason to take it apart.
Generations: E90
From a documented source: Owner report on a forum, not a BMW document: E90Post, "Steering angle sensor help. code: 6EC4" (2023), https://bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2009914. Repair-tips page: AutoExplain, https://autoexplain.com/6ec4-bmw-code/ (what the sensor feeds)..
Seeing 6EC4 on your car?
I come to the car, read the modules and trace the fault to the actual wire, connector or module.
